What is personification?

Personification is when you describe non-living objects so that they have human like qualities. The non-living object is portrayed in such as way that we tend to believe they have the ability to act like human beings.

"Hey, diddle, diddle,"
BY MOTHER GOOSE

Hey, diddle, diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.

Personification is shown when mother goose concludes her silly poem with ‘ the dish ran away with the spoon’ in which we all know is completely fictional, but Mother goose use’s it to imply a message to a junior audience. The personification used is to emphasise mother Goose’s crazy yet silly ideas. The audience intended find cows that jump over the moon, dogs that laugh and dishes running away from spoons somewhat amusing.
