What is Poetry?

Poetry consists of a number of verses that define the writers imagination, emotional and intellectual experience of the past or present, compelling beliefs and their own point of view on life or death. The main aim of poetry is to captivate the readers attention by using a series of techniques that make you the reader sympathise, enlightened, intrigued, depressed and/ or frustrated. Poetry uses the following techniques : Alliteration, Assonance, Metaphor, Rhyme and Onomatopoeia, just to name a few.
